Representing artist from our gallery is Kimiyo Mishima, who won Sardi per l’Arte Back to the Future Prize which is awarded to an exhibitor in one of the most innovative sections at Artissima in Torino, Italy in last month, November 2019. Recent years Mishima emerges as one of the most striking figures with gaining momentum especially in this year.
While the most well-known piece of Mishima was a huge trash bin titled, Another Rebirth, a 4.5-meter-tall trash bin made from recycled waste in Benesse Art Site Naoshima, Japan, her other iconic work, Comic Books was exhibited at Manga exhibition at the British Museum from May to July of 2019. Mishima’s works have been drawing increasing attention nationally and internationally.
In Dangdai, we are very privileged to show Mishima’s rare collages from 1960’s and her new ceramic sculptures such as 90 cans in trash bin, Boxes, Measuretape and more. Her 90 breakable ceramic cans were shown in a group show, CONNECT in Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto in August of 2020.
