【Art Fair】Tokyo Gendai 2025

Sokyo is pleased to announce our participation in Tokyo Gendai 2025.

We will be presenting a solo exhibition by Chie Aoki in the Hana section, as well as exhibiting in the Tsubomi and Sato sections.

We look forward to welcoming you at our booth.

Venue : PACIFICO Yokohama    1-1-1 Minato Mirai, Nishi-ku, Yokohama City, Kanagawa

Booth :

Hana - Chie Aoki Solo Show    H04

Chie Aoki creates works using lacquer as her medium, exploring the theme of human existence by seamlessly fusing life-sized bodies with abstract forms. This exhibition marks her first solo show at the fair.

The venue will feature three large-scale works from her signature BODY series, along with two smaller pieces created concurrently. Aoki’s works encapsulate emotions such as sorrow and inner conflict within the lustrous and resilient surface of lacquer.

Tsubomi - Polyrhythm   T01
Highlights female artists who explores traditional artisanal techniques in the contemporary art scene.
Featuring Aoki’s experimental artworks.

Sato - Art Fair for our Earth    S08
Exhibiting Artists: Bernard Leach, Edgar Sarin, Kawai Kanjiro, Kimiyo Mishima, Shoji Hamada, Sylvie Auvray, Tony Marsh.

In an era of rapid modernization in Japan, Kawai Kanjiro conveyed the importance of harmony with nature. Building on this philosophy, this exhibition features Kawai’s artworks, key figures in the Mingei (folk craft) movement ―Shoji Hamada and Bernard Leach―, as well as contemporary artists influenced by Mingei, and Kimiyo Mishima, known for her warnings on mass production with her positive humor. The works will be presented within a forest-like installation incorporating moss and native plants from the Yokohama area, offering a new vision for environmentally conscious art fairs that minimize ecological impact.
Forest-planning supported by: PLANTED. Advisory: Nicolas Trembley.
