【Exhibition】Toyako Museum of Art Special Exhibition 'Shozo Michikawa : THE INBETWEEN'

This summer, the Toyako Museum of Art  is pleased to present an exhibition of works by ceramic artist Michikawa Shozo, a native of Toyako Town. Titled 'THE INBETWEEN: Between Volcano and Lake' the exhibition draws inspiration from the dramatic landscape surrounding the museum—Lake Tōya stretching out before it, and the active volcano Mount Usu rising on the far shore. After graduating from Aoyama Gakuin University, Michikawa established his studio in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, and has since pursued a dynamic international career. He has held solo exhibitions in major cities including London, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, and New York. This exhibition builds upon the theme of his 2024 solo show in New York, featuring twelve works—primarily new and previously unexhibited pieces. Through the medium of clay, Michikawa captures the raw energy of the volcano and the quiet stillness of the lake, offering a contemplative space where viewers can reflect on the passage of time that flows between these opposing natural forces.
